North Korea accuses its neighbour of trying to kill Kim Jong Il

The clouds of suspicion and paranoia swirling over the world’s last remaining Cold War frontier darkened dramatically today when North Korea accused its southern neighbor of plotting to assassinate Kim Jong Il.

Webmaster's Commentary:

NKorea nuclear talks fruitful despite collapse: US envoy

The top US envoy to the North Korean nuclear disarmament negotiations, Christopher Hill, declared Tuesday that progress had been made despite the collapse of the six-nation talks last week.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"....Progress despite collapse"; please give me just a minute to wrap my head around that.

Forgive me, but the concepts of "progress" and "collapse" in this context appear to be mutually exclusive.

Truth be told, there has been no real progress in getting North Korea to truly abandon its nuclear program.

US negotiators made many promises to North Korea about what it would do if North Korea stopped its nuclear program, but failed to deliver.

And unfortunately, in the wake of the Iraq war, countries have seen what happens to countries the US doesn't like which do not have a nuclear deterrent.

North Korea Nuclear Talks Collapse, Major Setback For Bush

A final push by President Bush to complete an agreement to dismantle North Korea's nuclear weapons program collapsed Thursday, leaving the confrontation with one of the world's most isolated and intractable nations to the administration of President-elect Barack Obama.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It was foolish for the Bush administration to believe, at this late date in the administration , that they could wrest concessions from Kim Jong-il.

Unfortunately, "foolish" and this administration have had an interesting, and very intimate, relationship for the last 8 years, to the tune of massive carnage and bloodshed globally, and an economic meltdown at home.

Kim Jong-il may be many things, but he has a keep appreciation for what the term "lame duck president" means in the American political arena.

Gaza power plant shuts down

Gaza's sole power plant has shut down because Israel will not allow the importation of replacement parts needed for urgent repairs, an official in the impoverished Palestinian territory's energy authority said on Tuesday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This virtually guarantees that many of the medically fragile in Gazan hospitals will die.

US Targets Peacemakers While Pakistan Battles American-Taliban

Is it really necessary that we let Bush and Cheney destroy another innocent country before they pretend to leave the stage after Nov. 4? Does this Nation, which fancies itself as a great defender of freedom and democracy, intend to allow them do to our ally Pakistan what they have done to Iraq and Afghanistan? If we do not feel extreme shame for what is being done in our names there then perhaps it is true that we are something less than human, merely thinking cattle.

North Korea backing away from nuclear deal

North Korea said Friday it was working on restarting its nuclear plant and dismissed the prospect of being removed from a U.S. terrorism blacklist in return for a disarmament deal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is very simple: the US did not keep its part of the bargain.

Therefore, North Korea could find absolutely no reason to keep theirs.

Also, the world has had a very clear picture, courtesy of the US invasion and occupation of Iraq, of what happens to a country which does not have a nuclear deterrent these days.

N.Korea seen reassembling nuclear facility

North Korea has begun reassembling its Yongbyon reactor that can make material for atomic bombs in violation of U.S. conditions for improved diplomatic relations, Fox News reported on Tuesday.

North Korea said on August 26 it would cease disabling its nuclear facilities and accused the United States of violating a disarmament deal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yet more of Bush's true geopolitical "legacy".

North Korea Suspends Nuclear Reactor Disablement

North Korea said Tuesday it has suspended work to disable its nuclear reactor in anger over Washington's failure to remove it from the U.S. list of terror sponsors. The North said it will soon consider a step to restore the plutonium-producing facility.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said North Korea still has obligations to fulfill.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yet another of Bush's great diplomatic "legacy".

And if Secretary Rice actually believes that this isn't the end of the nuclear disablement process on the part of North Korea, she's clueless beyond belief.

North Korea was looking for something specific and tangible from the US and didn't get it as a starting point.

Plus, North Korea - and the world - have been given a very clear object lesson, courtesy of the US attack against and subsequent occupation - of Iraq about what happens to countries which don't have a nuclear deterrent.

N.Korea says it will suspend nuclear disablement

North Korea said on Tuesday it will stop disabling its nuclear facilities and consider restoring the Yongbyon reactor that can make material for atomic bombs, accusing the United States of violating a disarmament deal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Back when the US started invading nations on Israel's "Does not get a Hanukkah card" list, Bush decided to add Korea to the list of potential targets, not to invade them but to obscure the fact that the so-called "Axis of Evil" was really just those nations Israel does not like.

North Korea made a deal with the US in which they promised to dismantle their breeder reactor as long as the US took them off the list. But, obviously if the US actually did that, then it would again be obvious that the US terror nations list (aka the bad guys) was really just dictated by Israel. In an election year that is a problem with voters already twitchy over Israeli influence on our government, so the US reneged on the North Korea deal and North Korea is pissed about it (and rightly so).

U.S. won't delist North Korea on Monday

U.S. hints Monday deadline for N. Korea will lapse

Washington promised North Korea it could be removed from the list as early as Aug. 11 -- Monday -- if a robust verification plan was in place, but U.S. officials have made clear this was a "minimum timeline" rather than a fixed date.

US accused of backing terrorism in Pakistan

Quoting "impeccable official sources", The News reported on Tuesday that "strong evidence and circumstantial evidence of American acquiescence to terrorism inside Pakistan" was outlined by President Pervez Musharraf, army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt. Gen. Nadeem Taj in separate meetings with two senior US officials in Islamabad on July 12.

A reliable source in Washington said Wednesday the U.S. reaffirmed its position that it will not remove North Korea from the terrorism list until it agrees on a detailed verification procedure. The U.S. was expected to strike the North off the list on Aug

The U.S. has told North Korea that it will not strike it from the list of state sponsors of terrorism until it agrees on a verification protocol for its nuclear programs and stockpiles, it emerged on Thursday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yet another portion of Bush's "legacy" which appears to be exploding in his face like yet another bad trick cigar.
